Kelp Forests

Kelp are large brown algae that live in cool, relatively shallow waters close to the shore. They grow in dense groupings and provide food and shelter for thousands of fish, invertebrates, and marine mammal species. One of the most preserved Kelp forest in the Pacific Ocean is in San Benito Island, Mexico. Most of the time the island is cover by clouds, so the light that penetrates the Kelps produces impressive colors in the surface of the forest.
