En el episodio 11 de Atlas Aquática, en la sección Mar y letras, la Mtra. Julia Santibáñez analizó El viejo y el mar, de Ernest Hemingway. De acuerdo con la poeta y ensayista, una gran cantidad de reflexión sobre la determinación y fuerza de voluntad humana, así como sobre el respeto y dignidad que merece el mar y sus seres, son algunos de los puntos que se abordan en este corto pero valioso libro.  

Mientras que en la sección Escafandra, el talentoso fotógrafo subacuático Rodrigo Friscione, compartió algunas anécdotas detrás de algunas de las fotografías que ha tomado a lo largo de su trayectoria. También habló de la reducción del ecosistema marino que ha observado al paso del tiempo y la conexión especial que siente al encontrarse con la fauna. Asimismo, tocó otros puntos como los retos y las soluciones que percibe particularmente en Cancún respecto a su turismo y la conservación del mar.

Y en la sección estreno Tu Manglar, la Mtra. María Teresa Rodríguez Zúñiga, quien desde hace más de 15 años colabora en la CONABIO en el Sistema de Monitoreo de los Manglares de México, explicó la importancia ecológica de los manglares para la vida de algunas especies y para capturar hasta 10 veces más CO2 que cualquier otro ecosistema terrestre. Igualmente detalló que los llamados “ecosistemas de carbono azul”, cuentan en el país con un sistema único en el mundo para su monitoreo llevado a cabo generalmente con imágenes satelitales. Además, enfatizó en la relevancia del trabajo colaborativo para su preservación y detalló que se está laborando en la creación de la Sociedad Mexicana de Manglares, que integrará los saberes académicos, gubernamentales y de las comunidades en pro del manglar nacional.
